General Dentist Vero Beach | Dental Bonding
Dental bonding is one of the most common dental procedures. Here we will go over the basics of this tooth-saving procedure.
What is Dental Bonding?
Dental bonding is an efficient, affordable process of bonding tooth-colored resin to the teeth to mask imperfections like small gaps, minor chips, and discoloration. In addition to providing a cosmetic benefit, bonding can also be used to fill cavities. Over time, the bonding may need to be touched up or replaced, but it is highly unlikely that it will fall off or break away as the resin that is bonded to the tooth is a strong chemical bond. Dental bonding takes about 15 to 30 minutes per tooth to complete and can be completed at our dental office.
The surface of your tooth will be etched; a special cleaning/conditioning solution will be applied to allow the bonding resin to adhere to your tooth. We then always apply a desensitizing agent to ensure your comfort before applying the bonding agent. Next, we will apply the bonding resin which is putty-like inconsistency and can be molded into the desired shape necessary for your specific situation. Once the resin has been properly placed, molded and smoothed, we will use a special LED light that quickly hardens the resin. After the resin has hardened completely, we will be able to fine-tune the shape of the resin as well as polish the material until it matches the sheen and overall texture of your natural teeth. The entire process may also take between 15 and 30 minutes to complete.
